District-wide facility reconfigurations enhance learning environments for Michigan public school

Serving the community of Bloomfield Hills Schools

Home to 11 schools educating 5,300 students, Bloomfield Hills Schools (BHS) is a highly rated public school district in the Bloomfield Hills Community. Plante Moran Realpoint (PMR), formerly Plante Moran Cresa, provided pupil enrollment projections, strategic planning, bond planning, and consulting services to BHS leading up to voter approval of the $200 million bond proposal in 2020. Now serving as an owner’s representative to BHS, PMR supplements the public entity's internal team to help its staff manage the intricate details of significant capital programs.

Creating consistency in the district

The 2020 bond addressed district-wide improvements to the school buildings, with a focus on facility reconfigurations of North Hills Middle School (formerly Lahser High School) and South Hills Middle School (formerly Bloomfield Hills Middle School). The facilities required changes ranging from safety and access control to classroom and athletic field updates. One of BHS's objectives was to build consistency between schools, creating a more equitable learning environment throughout the district.

The bond included updates that provide safe and flexible learning environments for students by utilizing both modern school design concepts and safety practices. Both schools contain security cameras, safety film to help fortify the entrances, technology infrastructure that better supports a safe and secure digital experience for all learners, along with flexible furniture to create responsive learning environments.

Built to point the way

As we look ahead to the coming years, our commitment to the success of the bond program remains steadfast. PMR is dedicated to continuing our hands-on monitoring to ensure the improvements to the IT, sites, and media center of the two middle schools progress on schedule and budget. Our ongoing presence as the owner’s representative underscores our unwavering dedication to providing BHS with excellent client service throughout the rest of the bond program.

If your district is considering a bond program, give our experts a call today. We provide the technical knowledge and experience of working with school districts so you can focus on what matters most — educating students.
